Animal Trap Company

The longest producer of hunting decoys, the Animal Trap Company of North America began producing in 1848.  After World War I, the company began producing wooden duck decoys - most of which we feature in our collection.  Animal Traps are known for the unique carving pattern.  Decoys which have the "VICTOR" cold stamped were produced during 1918-1938, and beginning in 1939 wood decoys had round or rectangular ink stamps on the bottom.  These stamps also indicated where the decoy was made.  Production in Pascagoula, Mississippi began in 1939 and continued through 1949.
